The midfielder has disappointed, regardless of the injuries. It might even end up abroad too
Who knows what Davide Frattesi’s fate would have been if Simone Inzaghi had remained Inter’s coach last year. Some of it is known, some of it is not. Because the Nerazzurri midfielder would certainly have said goodbye to Milan to settle elsewhere, where he would have found the playing time he wanted, but it is not known how the new adventure would have gone. After a few months’ delay, farewell has once again become overwhelmingly probable. Last summer, Cristian Chivu had convinced Frattesi to at least put the start on standby. He tried to reassure him, to cuddle him, he went to visit him in the clinic after the inguinal hernia operation and even explained to him the tactical scenario he envisaged for him. Because in the absence of a “Lookman-style” shot, in terms of characteristics Davide represented the profile closest to the Nigerian, the only one in the Nerazzurri squad who could have played on the attacking midfield in the original design of the Romanian coach who wanted to make small changes to the “Inzaghian” 3-5-2 by inserting a more offensive profile, with an attacking midfielder supporting the ThuLa in a sort of 3-4-1-2 and a breaking midfielder (Manu Koné) added in the middle. In retrospect, it is not a crime to say that the mission completely failed. And now the future opens up very different scenarios, with only one constant: farewell to Inter.

The causes of the “Frattesian” flop are many: continuous physical problems that slowed down his return, heavy competition in the center of the pitch, new arrivals (Diouf but above all Sucic), regenerated players (Zielinski). Yet, Davide Frattesi remains a highly coveted profile on the market. The Inter situation has changed: previously there was an obligation not to sell the midfielder to teams considered direct competitors, today the only objective is to collect the requested amount – around thirty million? -. So it would be welcome if Juve, Napoli, Roma or Newcastle showed up near Viale della Liberazione. After all, these remain the main contenders. And all of them, in the recent past, had at least outlined an attempted approach with Inter. Giorgio Chiellini, “Head of Football Institutional Relations” of the Bianconeri, tactically closed an exchange between Frattesi and K.Thuram. But it cannot be ruled out that if Inter adds a small adjustment the agreement may not go through. Then there are, of course, Naples and Rome: the Azzurri have to fill the hole in midfield caused by the injuries of Anguissa and De Bruyne and Conte often complains about the lack of depth in the squad. The Giallorossi, on the other hand, in theory would first have the input of resolving some budget issues but would gladly bring Frattesi home. And Newcastle remains in the background. On the last day of the last summer transfer window the English club was very close, a return to the position – perhaps on more advantageous conditions – is not excluded. But the feeling is one: Frattesi’s time at Inter seems over.
