Valentín Carboni doesn’t finish his loan at Genoa CFC either. After the 20-year-old midfielder had to return to parent club Inter Milan from Olympique Marseille in February last year due to a cruciate ligament injury, the Genoa chapter has now ended ahead of schedule. The Racing Club from Carboni’s hometown of Buenos Aires announced the signature of the offensive talent on Thursday and said in a statement that it was pleased to be able to rely on the potential World Championship driver for a year.
According to Racing, there is no purchase option in the loan deal with Inter. There is also no transfer fee due. Carboni, who won the Copa América with Argentina in 2024, was “immediately excited” by the racing opportunity, he said. After making contact, he immediately started dreaming about “what is possible from now on.”
At Genoa, however, little was possible for the young professional. From November onwards he was no longer in the starting eleven for Rossoblù in the league and only played a little less than 550 minutes in the championship and cup. The only time they scored a goal was in the cup against third division team Vicenza. He should now be able to show himself at Racing until the end of 2026, before the next club search may begin. Carboni is tied to Inter until 2029. He played for the Nerazzurri in the league just a few minutes several years ago. In the summer of 2025, after his cruciate ligament injury, he also played in several games at the Club World Cup.
The youngster comes from the Nerazzurri youth academy and made his professional debut against AS Roma in 2022 when he came on as a substitute shortly before the end. Five more short missions followed. He made his breakthrough in the 2023/24 season during his loan to AC Monza, where he played in 32 games and was directly involved in six goals. Its market value there rose rapidly from 5 million to 15 million euros. The valuation has now fallen to 10 million euros after several devaluations. This is the highest value in the racing squad, which is also recorded by Juan Ignacio Nardoni (23).
