An Inter fan throws a firecracker at goalkeeper Audero during the game in Cremonese. The action has unpleasant consequences.
After the scandal in the Serie A game between US Cremonese and Inter Milan (0-2), the police have identified a suspected perpetrator. The Nerazzurri supporter lost several fingers when another firecracker exploded and was taken to hospital. He will be arrested after his release, the police said on Monday.
The incident occurred a few minutes into the second half. A firecracker thrown from the visitors’ block detonated in the immediate vicinity of Cremonese’s Emil Audero. The goalkeeper briefly went down in a daze, but was able to continue the game after a short interruption.
Inter players, including German international Yann Aurel Bisseck, rushed to Audero and condemned the incident. Club president Giuseppe Marotta spoke of an “isolated and unacceptable incident” that had nothing to do with the values of sport. At the same time, he praised Audero’s behavior.
According to information from security circles, the suspected perpetrator was attacked by other supporters after his injury. The incident occurred in front of league president Ezio Simonelli. Inter faces a fine of up to 50,000 euros and a possible partial closure of the fan curve.
After the game ended, the Milan professionals refrained from greeting their own fans. Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni explained that they wanted to send a clear signal against violence.
