Intel shares have staged an impressive rally in recent weeks. This is creating new optimism among investors.

• Intel shares with massive rally in just a few weeks
• Advances in foundry strategy drive investor imagination
• Analysts are increasingly warning about the risk of overheating

The shares of the semiconductor company Intel have experienced an exceptionally strong price development in the past few weeks. Just about a month ago, the stock was trading at around $79 on the NASDAQ, but at the end of the week on Friday the share closed at $119.84. The sharp price increase shows that many market participants now rate the chances of a sustainable operational turnaround significantly higher than they did at the beginning of the year.

The main focus is on the hope that Intel will increasingly get its long-standing problems in the production of modern chips under control and at the same time be able to position itself more strongly as a strategically important provider in the AI and data center market.

Operational progress is becoming more of a focus

Concrete progress in the reorganization of the Intel Foundry contract manufacturing is providing new optimism. Management recently referred to increasing production efficiency and more stable production yields. According to the company, the monthly improvements are now in the industry-standard range of seven to eight percent.

Particular attention is being paid to the future 14A manufacturing process, with which Intel wants to move technologically closer to leading competitors. Unlike competitors such as NVIDIA or AMD, who mostly outsource their chip production to external contract manufacturers, Intel continues to pursue the model of in-house development and production.

Especially in the current geopolitical environment, this strategy is being viewed more positively by many investors. The background is billions in funding programs in the USA and political efforts to reduce dependence on Asian supply chains in the semiconductor sector.

Server business and PC market provide additional support

The price development also receives support from the company’s classic core markets. In the server business, demand for data center processors is increasing again, which benefits Intel in the high-margin data center segment. At the same time, the global PC market is also becoming more stable again after a long period of weakness.

Above all, the increasing demand for desktop and notebook processors means that sentiment towards the group has improved significantly. Since Intel continues to have high market shares in both areas, investors are currently particularly sensitive to signs of operational stabilization.

Does the rally also increase the risk of overvaluation?

However, with the enormous price momentum, there is also growing discussion about a possible overheating of the share. Some analysts are now pointing out that the market may have already greatly anticipated operational progress. In some cases, price targets were adjusted or more cautious ratings were given after the valuation had recently risen significantly.

The decisive factor will therefore be whether Intel can confirm its high expectations operationally in the coming quarters. The focus is particularly on the further development of production efficiency, the expansion of the foundry business and the competitiveness of the next chip generations. If progress is visible here, the share price could continue its upward trend. However, if there are further delays, the high valuation will become increasingly difficult to justify.
