Inside the electoral campaign of 83

40 years after the election that inaugurated the longest period of democracy in Argentina, the Torcuato Di Tella University offers to relive the electoral campaign of 1983 through an exhibition of posters, flyers and audiovisual propaganda. The exhibition “Argentina chooses: The electoral campaign of 1983 in posters” It will take place on Saturday June 3 and 10 with free admission.

“In a climate of great uncertainty and hope, the presidential campaign was a milestone in political communication. Posters, flyers, and public events were combined with the use of television and radio spots and jingles. For the first time, party strategies were combined with marketing and advertising strategies to broaden and generate a greater link with the electorate”, affirm those responsible for the exhibition, curated by Geraldine Davies Lenoble and Manuel Mera.

The meeting that will take place on the ground floor of the Alcorta Building on the university campus, located at Av. Figueroa Alcorta 7350, proposes a tour of the 1983 electoral campaign through four moments. “JOIN”dedicated to the mobilization and reactivation of political parties in posters and photographs; “PROPOSE and DEBATE”, focusing on electoral programs in posters, flyers, and radio and television advertisements; “CHOOSE”, about the closing of the campaign and the results and “VOTE”, in which the turnout for the 1983 election is recorded in our darkroom.

“We propose to immerse ourselves in the climate and materiality of the time, and reflect on democracy in its most essential aspect, the relationship between the people and their representatives. This public history proposal explores a period climate where mobilization, political debate, voting and communication met to define one of the most relevant moments in Argentine history”, they explain from the UTDT Public History Laboratory.
