As of today, residents of Tata Steel will measure the air quality themselves on the site of the steel factory in the IJmond. This takes place within the citizen science project Hollandse Luchten, which was set up in 2018 by the province of North Holland.
“The residents use the measurements to enter into discussions with the company, experts and the government,” the initiators explain. “We hope to use the data to improve the position of residents.”
The first of four sensors has been placed on the roof of Tata Steel’s headquarters in Velsen-Noord. The other three will be installed later at other locations on the site.
The sensors should, among other things, provide an image of the distribution of particulate matter on the Tata Steel site and the area around it. The wind plays an important role in this. Tata Steel indicates that it is willing to cooperate with the measurements.
There was a stabbing at an apartment complex on Verzetslaan in Purmerend this morning. One person was injured. The victim was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.
The police have arrested one person. The emergency services were alerted to the incident around 9:15 am. What exactly happened is still unclear and is currently being investigated by the police.
