Ingrid Klimke won a surprising victory at the Chio in Aachen and won the Grand Prix Special in the four-star tour.

With Vayron, Klimke, four -time Olympic champion in versatility, sat down with 74.128 percentage points ahead of the Finnen Henri Ruoste (73.872), who convinced with Tiffany’s Diamond as in the Grand Prix. Record Olympic champion Isabell Werth was sixth with young horse Special Blend (72.085).

Also because only three German equestrian couples are represented in the five-star exams after the short-term failure of the German champion Sönke Rothenberger, the focus of national coach Monica Theodorescu this year is more than usual on the exams of the “small tour”. The competitions in Aachen are the last sight for the European Championships in Crozet, French (August 26th to 31st), after the Chio, Theodorescu names her line -up.

Klimke’s success with Youngster Vayron surprised. The duo has only been a couple since the end of last year. Matthias Alexander Rath, who had traveled to Aachen as a reservist for the team in the Nations Aachen, did not convince as a seventh with Destacado. Already at the start on Wednesday, the 40-year-old only took eleventh place.

On Saturday evening (9:30 p.m.) the four-star tests will end with the freestyle, the riders had to choose between a start in the highlight test under floodlights or the special.
