Inflation in Hesse is weakening

Inflation in Hesse continued to weaken from a high level in September. Consumer prices rose by 4.7 percent compared to the same month last year, as the State Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced on Thursday. In August 2023, annual inflation had reached 6.0 percent. Without taking energy and food into account, consumer prices in Hesse in September 2023 rose by 4.3 percent over the past twelve months.

In local public transport, the Deutschlandticket, introduced in May 2023, curbed inflation. After the much cheaper nine-euro ticket expired at the end of August 2022, tickets initially rose sharply in price. In September 2023, thanks to the new Germany ticket, they were on average 26.5 percent cheaper in Hesse than in the same month of the previous year.

The prices for energy in Hesse rose by 5.1 percent within a year, and for electricity by as much as 22.6 percent. Fuels, on the other hand, were slightly cheaper again: diesel cost 11.5 percent, premium gasoline 2.2 percent less.
