Inexpensive Android smartphone with a long battery life

Anyone looking for a smartphone with a long battery life could find what they are looking for at Aldi from September. The discounter sells the Samsung Galaxy A13 at a low price of 119 euros. TECHBOOK reveals what the smartphone can do and whether it is really the cheapest at Aldi.

Inexpensive smartphones with a long service life are not only interesting for price-conscious buyers. The models are also ideal for parents who want to give their child a reliable phone to take with them when they are out and about. One such model is the Samsung Galaxy A13, which is available from both Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd at a reasonable price from today, Thursday, September 1st.

Samsung Galaxy A13 on sale at Aldi – the details

Samsung introduced the Galaxy A13 in March 2022, so the smartphone is still relatively new on the market. It has a large 6.6-inch display with Full HD+ resolution that stretches almost the entire front. The drop-shaped notch offers space for the 8-megapixel front camera. On the back is the quad camera, whose main sensor offers a resolution of at least 50 megapixels. The other sensors are more of an accessory. There’s a 5-megapixel ultra-wide angle, plus a 2-megapixel macro lens and depth sensor. Unfortunately, users have to do without a telephoto lens – typical in this price range. As far as the camera is concerned, you can take good snapshots with a decent depth of field. Far-away subjects, on the other hand, are less easy to capture.

The general performance of the Samsung Galaxy A13 is also good. This is ensured by the Exynos 850 octa-core processor, which has a maximum clock speed of 2 GHz. There is also 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. While that’s not much, users can upgrade with a microSD card and expand the storage by up to 1 TB. Overall, the performance of the smartphone is completely sufficient for common tasks. Watching videos, the occasional Android game or surfing the Internet are no problem. However, a different device should be chosen for more complex multitasking tasks or playing graphically demanding games.

The Samsung Galaxy A13 comes with Android 12, which is a fairly up-to-date system. The successor, Android 13, has just been introduced and will probably not end up on smartphones anytime soon. The system can be secured with a fingerprint, whereby the sensor is located in the home button on the side. One of the highlights is the battery, which has a capacity of 5000 mAh and thus ensures a long runtime. The smartphone also comes with a jack connection for headphones, Bluetooth 5.2 and WLAN ac. However, users have to do without 5G with this model.

Starter pack from Aldi Talk free of charge for your smartphone

Aldi sells the smartphone at a price of 119 euros. The starter pack from Aldi Talk is included free of charge. It actually costs 12.99 euros, with a starting credit of 10 euros already included. Aldi Talk implements its offer in the O2 network, in this case it is a prepaid tariff with optional packages that can be booked. For example, the all-network flat rate with 3 GB of data volume costs EUR 7.99 for 28 days.

The Samsung Galaxy A13 is currently the cheapest at the discounter. Other providers charge prices from 155 euros for the device alone, the starter package is not included here. Thus, the offer at Aldi Nord and Süd offers a discount of around 35 euros without a starter package and even 48 euros with Aldi Talk. Buying from a discounter is therefore definitely worthwhile. If you like, you can also use the Galaxy A13 with any other tariff.
