Indian Summer has been a regular shot in the Geestmerambacht since 2001. The festival attracted tens of thousands of visitors a day and was celebrated for a whole weekend until 2018. From that year the festivities were reduced from two days to one day. Even then, 15,000 partygoers came to the Geestmerambacht.

Indian Summer stops

But in November last year, organizer Friendly Fire announced that they would stop the festival (for the time being). According to Roy Pereira, Head of Marketing, the organization came to that decision through an ‘sum of things’. “From the availability of the site and the planning to broader developments in the market and our own festival strategy.”

And with that the edition of 29 June 2024 became the last of Indian Summer for the time being. The festival is missed in the region, because This summer, only one other large music festival is on the agenda in the Geestmerambacht.

Festival-opa Robert makes debut

Robert Both is also difficult to digest the loss, because he has warm memories of the festival. The then 74-year-old (now he is 80) was called on stage during the 2019 edition to dance. Since then he is known as the Alkmaarse Festival-Opa. “Then I danced on stage for the first time in my life. That was very nice,” Robert looks back six years later.
