Inaccurate KZ loses sight of play-offs after defeat against DOS, Blauw-Wit proudly in the lead

KZ has missed the chance to qualify for the play-offs. The team of coach Tim Bakker lost in Koog aan de Zaan in an exciting 20-22 match against DOS ’46. The visitors are therefore equal in points.

The game was played on Tuesday-evening, as the game could not go ahead earlier. The selection of KZ had to do with a corona outbreak and was unable to assemble a full team. As a result, Blauw-Wit also played tonight.

DOS ’46 took the lead in the opening phase via Robin Frieswijk. KZ then had many chances to score, but was careless in the completion. Nikki Boerhout managed to break that trend and put the equalizer on the scoreboard. Then it went better at KZ, but DOS kept up because it was very accurate in the rounding: 4-4.

The visitors from Nijeveen, who were fighting for their last chance for a possible place in the play-offs, didn’t give up and came five minutes before half time thanks to four precise long shots from Max Malestein at 7-9. On the stroke of half-time, KZ came alongside thanks to a utilized penalty by Anouk Haars: 9-9.

Conflict

DOS, which only collected two points in the championship group, immediately started strongly in the second half. But Malestein’s two quick goals were undone with two long shots from Emiel de Kruiff (11-11). KZ had a hard time with the effective DOS and still needed many chances to score. Just over ten minutes before the end, KZ took the lead again via Onno Bakker: 17-16. Yet the Koogers let their lead slip out of their hands. After a blood-curdling final phase, DOS took the victory: 20-22.

Due to the defeat, KZ is stuck on four points in the championship group and sees DOS equalize. Blauw-Wit was much too strong for TOP at home. The team from Amsterdam won convincingly with 23-12 and thus strengthened their lead in the relegation pool.
