Gabriëlle Westra from Heerenveen was one of three artists on Saturday who made a portrait of journalist and documentary maker Sinan Can in the television program Sterren op het Doek by Omroep MAX. Can chose her work at the end of the program.
“If I had to make a journey to the soul, I could make it with your painting,” said the journalist about Westra’s painting. The Heerenveense thought that was a very nice compliment.
In Stars on the Canvas let well-known Dutch people immortalize themselves on the canvas by three artists. At the end of the episode, the person portrayed chooses one painting to take with him. The other two artworks will be auctioned online for charity.
Classical Academy Groningen
Westra exhibits at home and abroad and has its own gallery in Heerenveen. In 2015 she obtained her master’s degree as a visual artist at the Classical Academy Groningen. Westra applied a 3D technique in her portrait of Can.
