In the Simpsons, sign language is seen for the first time

For the first time in the popular Simpsons animation series, a character using sign language is seen.

In the United States The Simpsons -an animation series sees an episode featuring the first character in the series ’history that uses sign language.

Episode 722 of the animated series, bears its name The sound of Bleeding Gums and says Lisa Simpson admires Bleeding Gums Murphy, a deaf boy from Monk who needs an inner ear implant to hear it.

The episode was edited by Loni Steele Sosthand. His brother is deaf, so the subject was familiar to the author and he was able to be sensitive to the subject.

The challenge with using sign language was that the animated characters in the series have only four fingers.

The Simpsons producers consulted sign language experts who helped use characters that the four-fingered characters were able to use. It was also important that the language was understandable.

– It was challenging, especially when we wanted to talk about Shakespeare, Sosthand said.

The episode was seen in the United States on Sunday, April 10th. Corresponding producer of the series Al Jean tweeted about this in advance.
