Alexander Zverev fights with the technology, his opponent and himself – and still gets a round in Madrid.

With anger, prominent support and a good dose of luck, Alexander Zverev avoided an early end at the clay court master in Madrid. At 2: 6, 7: 6 (7: 3), 7: 6 (7: 0), the Hamburg -based company in the meantime desperately desperately seen a narrow ball of his opponent Alejandro Davidovich Fokina than himself: on the line. Zverev took his cell phone out of his pocket and photographed the impression.

For this he got a warning. After all: The 28-year-old did not lose the nerves and initially won the tie-break to equalize the set and after 2:44 hours the next. In his box, Edelfan Toni Kroos Zverev’s seventh victory also cheered in series.

“It was a day with many up and down. He was outstanding in the first sentence, I played terribly,” said Zverev, who had lost the first ten points of the match: “I didn’t know what was happening, I did everything, left, right, middle.”

The week before, Zverev fought himself out of the form crisis with the tournament victory in Munich, he wants to add up in Madrid, and the chances are as favorable as it is rarely before. Industry leader Jannik Sinner (Italy) is missing, Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) injured. Grand Slam record champion Novak Djokovic (Serbia) and defending champion Andrej Rublew have already been eliminated.

However, it won’t be easier in Madrid. In the round of 16, Zverev meets Francisco Cerúndolo, against the Argentinian he already lost on sand in Buenos Aires this year when he also went with the audience. A good opportunity, however, to revenge and to continue driving for the big season goal.

He is not yet in the form for the French Open in Paris (from May 25th), where Zverev is the best chance of his first Grand Slam title. He should not have complained about defeat against the uncomfortable Davidovich Fokina.

The first sentence was completely past Zverev, only at 0: 4 he woke up, but remained strangely hesitant. In the second round, Davidovich, who was driven by the Spanish fans in the Caja Mágica, missed the great chance of breaking a break to 5: 4, his simple backhand landed on the net, Zverev was allowed to breathe, but preferred to look for another valve.

The decision of the “Electronic Line Calling”, which has recently been used on sand, does not fit Zverev at all. Even after the sentence compensation, the impression annoyed him, and Zverev had once called for technical help on his favorite covering. “I think it’s good because there are no longer any wrong decisions,” he said. Now he sensed an “error in the system”.
