“Stin the footsteps of K2” puts women at the center of the story by exploring life at Base Campthe personal stories of the mountaineers and their connection with the mountains. The extraordinary images of the Karakorum and the most intense moments of the expedition are intertwined with the memories of the historic 1954 climb, creating a bridge between past and present. Massimiliano Ossini, a well-known TV face and main narrator of the project, adds a personal touch to the experience. In addition to living at Base Camp together with the mountaineers, Ossini tried to reach Camp 1 at over 6000 meters above sea level. An experience recounted in his recent book “K2. One step from the top, one step from life” published by Rai Libri.
The documentary, in addition to the mountaineering sphere, places thefocus on the fragility of the natural territory in which K2 is located and on the climate crisis whose consequences are more tangible at higher altitudes. In fact, space for narration is found in the two scientific expeditions present last summer on Baltoro, that of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, with the Ice Memory project, and that of the Polytechnic University of Marche, which carried out a study on the presence of pollutants in remote environments.
The documentary “In the footsteps of K2” will be broadcast on Rai 3 on January 2nd at 9.20 pm.
