Czech police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accidental destruction of a secret report of the country’s special services on explosions in weapons depots in the village of Vrbetice in 2014, the publication reports. Respect and Czech radio with reference to sources.

The report was prepared by the Security Information Service (BIS) of the country, in April 2021 it was handed over to the administration of President Milos Zeman. The report claimed that members of the GRU (now the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces) were involved in the explosions.

The destruction of the document came to light when the police requested it for fingerprinting and DNA testing to see if unauthorized people had access to it. According to the publication, the report was mistakenly destroyed at the end of November, along with some other documents.

The head of the presidential administration of the Czech Republic Vratislav Minarzh did not confirm, but did not deny the destruction of the document. However, he stressed that it could not be accessed by those who were not entitled to it. The chairman of the Security Committee of the Office of the President of the Republic, Jan Nowak, added that employees of the appropriate level are engaged in the disposal of documents, compiling all the necessary protocols in such cases.

A spokesman for the National Center for Combating Organized Crime declined to comment. According to Respekt, the police will check whether the presidential administration has violated Czech law.
