Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N. F. Gamalei developed a test system for the detection of virus-neutralizing antibodies to the omicron strain, reported “RIA News” director of the center Alexander Gintsburg.
“We have a test system for determining virus-neutralizing antibodies to omicron, but so far it is available only at our center,” the scientist said.
Gunzburg said that “Sputnik V” does not need to be modified to “omicron”
Earlier, on January 14, Gunzburg reported that he was infected with the omicron strain of coronavirus, but did not get sick with COVID-19. He then clarified that he learned about the infection using a special test that he did after a trip abroad. According to the scientist, the test results showed very high titers of virus-neutralizing omicron antibodies. However, he did not feel any symptoms of COVID-19.
The first cases of omicron infection in Russia were detected in early December last year. According to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, by January 14, the number of people infected with this variant in Russia exceeded 700 people.
