‘Zeppos – Het Mercatorspoor’ tells the story of digital native Benjamin Kurrel who, on his 18th birthday, inherits the legacy of his missing father Ben Kurrel: a box of very old objects, including a very rare old book. When he gives the antique book to Slien, the girl he has a crush on, he inadvertently sets in motion a chain reaction. An old man who introduces himself as Zeppos takes a great interest in the book, which once belonged to cartographer Mercator. Using the secret messages in Mercator’s book, the trio uncover more and more of the mystery, but a merciless adversary tries to stop them. Their dangerous quest not only brings them closer to Mercator’s secret, but also confronts Benjamin with his origins. The result is an adventure film for young and old, with action but also nostalgia.

Carry Goossens takes on the role of the legendary Kapitein Zeppos, the main character from the iconic VRT television series from the 1960s. This series was rebroadcast over many generations and was one of the first foreign successes of Flemish fiction. Nathan Naenen and the Dutch Britt Scholte put themselves in the shoes of the youngsters. Koen De Bouw, with neck carpet, and Nora Gharib can indulge themselves as villains.

‘Zeppos – Het Mercatorspoor’ will be in cinemas from Wednesday 30 March.
