Five lessons at the ‘Heart of Quixote’ center to learn the basics of Korean discipline. Gregorio Oxilia’s idea born from the collaboration between Polisportiva Putinati, Municipality and Csen
On the wall of the Il Cuore di Quixote employment center there is a huge phrase by Gabriel Garcia Marquez: “What is most tiring is living without dreams”. In Ferrara, taekwondo master Gregorio Oxilia organized a course aimed at children with disabilities: an educational space lasting five lessons in which participants learned the fundamentals and movements of the Korean martial art. An initiative born thanks to the collaboration of the Polisportiva Putinati, the Municipality and Csen Taekwondo: the organization has also chosen to offer free sports material (dobok and belts) to the children. The final test took place on 11 April in the presence of the Sports Councilor Francesco Traspadano Carità, the president of the Polisportiva Putinati Andrea De Vivo, the vice-president of Coop 3.0 Nicola Novelli and the coordinator of Il Cuore di Chisciotte Alessia Veronese.

“The goal of the course was to transform the kids’ energy into smiles.” Master Gregorio Oxilia succeeded lesson after lesson: “Michele, one of the boys who participated in the course, confessed to me that he is a fan of Bruce Lee – he said -. He wanted to try his famous rotating flying kick. After a lot of effort in the final performance he succeeded”. By following the principles of taekwondo, the boys learned not to give up and to overcome their limits. During the meeting, the work carried out and the progress made was demonstrated. The course – aimed at people with disabilities aged between 20 and 50 and residing in the Ferrara area – was a wonderful opportunity to promote inclusion: “We try to give value to the beauty that surrounds us and to restore it through shared projects – recalled the master Oxilia – collaborating with schools, the world of cooperation and local bodies. Planning that looks to the future is our mission”.
