Dior presents a new exhibition in dialogue with female artists.
The French fashion house is opening an exhibition highlighting female artists and female creativity, Dior announced on Thursday. The setting for this is the Galerie Dior at the traditional Avenue Montaigne location in Paris – Dior’s first tailoring studio, where collections are still made today.
Christian Dior had a great passion for art during his lifetime. Due to his original profession as a gallery owner, he opened up circles of artists whose works and inspiration had a great influence on his fashion creations.
The untitled exhibition presents a dialogue between Monsieur Dior and the women who influenced him, as well as between Maria Grazia Chiuri and a number of contemporary artists who draw inspiration from fashion.
In addition to Dior exhibits, works by artists Lillian Bassman, Elina Chauvet, Judy Chicago, Niki de Saint Phalle and Yuriko Takag, among others, are on display. Brigitte Niedermair is represented with an interpretation of the ‘We should all be feminists’ T-shirt from Chiuri’s first Dior collection and Niki de Saint Phalles stages an oversized sculpture in a bikini.
Reinterpretations of the ‘Lady Dior’ bag, which owes its name to the famous wearer Lady Diana, are also among the exhibits. As part of the ‘Dior Lady Art’ series, eight creators reinvented the bag and gave it a personal touch.
The exhibition is open now until May 13th.
