Movement demonstration

The anti-immigration demonstration was initially scheduled to take place on Dam Square, but was moved to Museumplein this week by the mayor. The demonstration will start there and end again after a parade. The route being walked is similar to that of last Sunday’s Red Line demonstration, a circuit around the Vondelpark.

Halsema previously indicated that the risks of disturbances on Dam Square are high if a demonstration takes place there. For example, the safety measures are said to be related to the match of the Dutch national team against Finland, which will be played tonight in the Johan Cruijff Arena. Many football supporters are therefore expected in the city center in the afternoon.

Due to the number of demonstrations on Dam Square last year, approximately 3,000, the pressure on this location has increased. “To such an extent that in recent months the triangle has increasingly felt compelled to look at other locations to facilitate and protect demonstrations in a responsible manner,” Halsema said earlier.

The anti-immigration demonstration is expected to last until 4 p.m. this afternoon.
