Eelde Airport has a new destination from March 4: Norwich, British. This connection is the first step towards a more extensive flight network around the North Sea, which should, for example, connect offshore industry or maritime hubs.

Tourists will also be able to use the new flight route in a month’s time. Initially, flights will operate once every two weeks on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but “the route is set up in such a way that it can be expanded with additional frequencies as demand increases,” says operator LYGG.

The connection between Norwich and Eelde is therefore the first step towards the North Sea network. In the future, the cities of Humberside (UK), Den Helder, Esbjerg (Denmark) and Stavanger (Norway) should also be added to this network once they are operational and commercially ready.

“The flight to Norwich offers additional value to the social relevance of our airport, namely appropriate business connectivity for the region,” says Jonas van Dorp, Manager Commerce & Business Development of Groningen Airport Eelde. “In this way, not only holiday passengers, but also business passengers are served at our airport.”

It is not the first time that planes have flown between Eelde and Norwich. In the past, these connections were only available to Shell and NAM employees, but later they were also opened to tourists.
