In 2024 the time has come: a permanent 400 meter skating rink in Drenthe

Drenthe needs to get a skating rink again. A full skating rink, 400 meters long and covered. Which is open all year round. A serious plan is now ready for this, says Bart Jonkers, chairman of the Drenthe department of the KNSB, the Dutch skating association.

The plan also includes a ‘fun track’. According to initiator Tijs Nederlof, this is a space where there is room for short track, ice hockey and curling. “Where you can actually do all winter sports on ice,” he adds.

Bart Jonkers hopes that in the 2024-2025 season skating will be possible again in a hall in Drenthe. Unlike the Hoogeveen debacle, this is not about tens of millions. But at 3.5 to 4 million euros. That money must come from the province. The intention is that this will be included in the provincial coalition agreement of the next coalition in Drenthe, after the March elections.
