Novak Djokovic has returned Team Europe to the lead in the Laver Cup. The Serbian former number 1 in the world had no problem with the American Frances Tiafoe, who played for Team World. Djokovic won in straight sets: 6-1 6-3. He didn’t lose a single point on his own serve in the first set.
Djokovic played his first game since Wimbledon in London, where he captured his 21st Grand Slam title by beating Australian Nick Kyrgios in the final. Djokovic could not participate in the Australian Open and the US Open this year, because he has not been vaccinated against the corona virus on principle.
Roger Federer was an attentive spectator at the matches and encouraged his old rival Djokovic. The Swiss, twenty times winner of a grand slam tournament, played his very last tennis match of his career in the Laver Cup on Friday, alongside Rafael Nadal in doubles.

After his duel in singles, the Serb also won the doubles alongside the Italian Matteo Berrettini. The couple won on behalf of Team Europe in two sets (7-5 6-2) against the duo Jack Sock/Alex de Minaur, which represented Team World.
Team Europe of captain Björn Borg now leads 8-4. Earlier in the day, Berrettini won in singles against Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime (7-6 (11) 4-6 10-7). American Taylor Fritz took 2 points for Team World from captain John McEnroe by beating British Cameron Norrie: 6-1 4-6 10-8.
