RKC Waalwijk has booked an important victory in the fight against relegation on Sunday afternoon. The number 17 of the Eredivisie defeated Almere City FC with 4-1 and thereby increased the gap between the two teams to 4 points. Home team Almere was dominant in the first half, but shortly after the break Joey Jacobs was lost due to a red card.
After an opening phase with opportunities for RKC, the home team completely took the initiative. RKC goalkeeper Jeroen Houwen had no answer in the eighteenth minute to a deployment of Junior-Morau Kadile after a combination with Charles-Andreas BRYM.
It was the first goal for Almere of the Frenchman. RKC was pushed back further. Houwen cleverly intervened on a shot by Kornelius Hansen. BRYM shot out of reach of the RKC goalkeeper against the post.
Red card
The second half started dramatically for Almere. Within the minute, Jacobs had to go to the side with a red card after he had prevented Richonell Margaret.
It was not long before RKC benefited from the numerical majority. Mohamed Ihattaren shot out of a knocked corner. A second Waalwijk goal followed in the 72nd minute. Yassin Oukili aimed the ball in the left corner.
Oskar Zawada made the 3-1 five minutes before time. In the extra time it even became 4-1: from a free kick by Ihattaren, the ball ended up in the goal via the post and goalkeeper Nordin Bakker.
