The immunity developed in those who have previously had COVID-19 does not protect well against new strains of coronavirus. This was announced by the director of the Gamaleya Research Center Alexander Gintsburg.

“As a result of the fact that people get sick, and first of all those who get seriously ill, the immunity that they develop in the form of antibodies does not form for a long time,” Gunzburg said on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24” and media platforms “Looking”referring to the results of the study.

Gintsburg explained: the antibodies that are formed after the disease have not very good virus-neutralizing ability to new strains.

According to the expert, long-term immunity can be developed by vaccination with a booster vaccine. It helps to form antibodies that “live long” and have a good virus-neutralizing ability.

“The conclusion from this is still the same: you need to be vaccinated and boosted on time,” Gunzburg concluded.

Earlier, Gunzburg said that in Moscow 95 percent of patients who test positive for covid are infected with “omicron”.
