PRATO, 5 Jun. (askanews) – immense, XXL works from the collection of the Pecci center is the open exhibition until 8 September 2025 in the spaces of the Gamberini set up by the architect Ibrahim Kombarji in dialogue with the team of the center for contemporary art Luigi Pecci with works by Marco Bagnoli, Luca Bertolo, Lorenzo Bonechi, Enzo Cucchi, Caterina De Nicola, Karen Kilimnik, Will Kopf, Jannis Kounellis, Lorenza Longhi, Mario Merz, Jacopo Mili, Julian Opie, Mimmo Paladino, Paolo Parisi and Remo Salvadori.
The director of the Pecci Center Stefano Collicelli Cagol spoke to askanews: “immense, XXL works from the collection of the Pecci center ideally continues the path of eccentric, which is the permanent collection that was set up by the formfantasma inside the new nio With ten giant rooms, prepared on purpose in 1988 to host the first contemporary art museum built specifically.
We are very happy to be able to present works that have been seen over the years in the history of the Pecci Center, given that some have been produced precisely for these spaces, which have these large dimensions that have then encouraged artists and artists to deal with it, and also works that were donated by artists or given on loan and therefore that they also enriched the heritage of the collection of the Pecci center.
A huge was also built in dialogue with Ibrahim Kombarji, a Lebanese architect who accepted the invitation to imagine a space according to what are the new reflections on the accessibility to which the Pecci Center has given great impulse in recent years, thanks also to the new communication, for the PNRR for the demolition of physical, cognitive and sensory barriers: therefore we wanted in a certain sense to think about this space. All, with gigantic captions, with explanations also of the works written in easy language and with also the height of the works designed for anyone who can approach them. This also varied the dimension of the perception of the spaces.
Behind me the spiral appears of Mario Merz’s 1990 which is one of the iconic pieces also of the Pecci center. Designed specifically for the structure of the Pecci Center which in 1990 was redesigned with this imaginary spiral which appears in different places in the center both outside and inside and this is the moment when the spiral appears in the center of an exhibition hall and then continues in the following, going to ideally break through the external wall and continuing in space “.
