The municipality of De Wolden has put the organization of the Illuminated Trekker Parade and 14-year-old Olivier Bakker in the spotlight.

The initiators of the Illuminated Tractor Parade were presented with the 2025 Breed Horse. Bakker received the Purebred foal for his work as a volunteer miller. “With these awards we want to show how proud we are of people who are committed to our municipality with heart and soul,” says Mayor Inge Nieuwenhuizen. “They make our community stronger and more beautiful.”

For years, the volunteers of the Illuminated Tractor Parade have been committed to organizing an attractive parade with illuminated tractors through the municipality.

“They arrange everything themselves and, among other things, drive past nursing homes in our municipality to offer residents a moment of light, connection and solidarity. A wonderful example of young village strength and social involvement,” said the jury.

14-year-old Olivier Bakker can be found every weekend at De Meule van Wassens in Zuidwolde, where he is the youngest volunteer to help the millers. The jury: “Partly thanks to his enthusiasm and commitment, cultural heritage in De Wolden remains alive and accessible to everyone. An inspiring example for young and old.”
