The gnomes are close to Jo *’s house. “Those gnomes are not even mine,” she tells NH. The group of gnomes has been around a tree near her house for almost ten years. The mini village now has a resident or thirty. “It started very small, and bit by bit more and more were added,” says Jo.

The collection has since become a welcome appearance in the street. “You see cars driving a bit slower when they come by, parents and grandparents who come to watch the little ones. They are of course just gnomes, but it’s just fun to have them here.”

The municipality intervenes after reporting

But the existence of the colony suddenly seemed to come to an end. A local resident had reported the village to the municipality. Suddenly two enforcers were at Jo. “They said that a report had been made and that I had two weeks to remove the gnomes, otherwise I would have to pay the clean -up costs.”

“It just really made me really angry. Of course it is not about anything, but that someone is so smaller to destroy this and that the municipality then jumps on top of it is crazy for words.”
