Ilary Blasi, “Unica” arrives on Netflix

Sn the end of her marriage to the former Roma captain, many words flew, now it’s her turn to say how things went. “Sometimes too much has been said, sometimes little has been said, sometimes the wrong thing has been said,” he says Ilary Blasi in “Unica”, the Netflix documentary in which he tells the end of his marriage to Francesco Totti, celebrated on 19 June 2005 in Rome complete with live Sky television.

Ilary Blasi, tears in “Unica”: «I couldn't believe that Francesco had done something like that»

In all they are almost twenty years that Ilary and Francesco spent together, from the day of that first meeting which took place in a Roman pub: «My sister, who had met him, called me one day saying that Francesco wanted to meet me. I was 19 years old and he was already Francesco Totti” Ilary confesses to the camera.

Courtship followed and the dramatic declaration during that unforgettable 10 March 2002, when Totti gave a romantic twist to the Roma derby by wearing a shirt with the writing “6 Unica”. It was the worldwide announcement of her love for Ilary. It seemed like a fairy tale of our times: the beautiful little letter who falls in love and marries the famous footballer, the birth of three children, Chanel, Christian and Isabel, the careers of both of them which are booming, the success, the economic well-being. There were all the ingredients of a stainless marriage which, however, collapsed under the weight of misunderstandings and betrayals.

All about me

The documentary film is a flow of thought in which Ilary Blasi talks about herself without filters, from her beginnings in advertising as a child to her first television appearances that made her famous. The interview in the studio alternates with archive images and memories of the pasteven the recent one, with their inevitable load of nostalgia, tears and guilt for the end of a love story that seemed like a certainty, judging by how many have always perceived it.

Indeed, it was for a long time, even many years of marriage «we had sex regularly even more than a couple who has been together for twenty years. Then this period begins and our meetings become sporadic. At the end of January we go to dinner and I start to notice a different husband. From there, a disaster» says Ilary, who is not afraid to show the public her fragility and her disappointment at how things went and the many doubts that preceded the decision to end things.

According to what Ilary reveals, the beginning of the crisis coincided with Francesco Totti’s interception of an exchange of messages between her and a friend. An innocent game in her opinion, something more according to her ex-husband: «It was just a coffee, but Francesco didn’t like that coffee» explains Ilary.

From Totti’s jealousy for a coffee that «Francesco couldn’t get out of his head». And then, the rumors from the tabloid press about the former Roma captain’s relationship with Noemi Bocchi. «Who do I believe? To journalists or to my husband? I couldn’t believe that the man who was next to me for twenty years had done something like that” she wonders.

Between confirmations and denials, the news of the separation was made official last year: «After 20 years my marriage is over», Ilary declared in a press release confirming the separation, which was immediately followed by a note from Totti: « I tried to overcome the crisis in my marriage but today I understand that the choice of separation, although painful, is no longer avoidable.”

In the meantime Ilary has rebuilt her life. In recent days she flew to New York together with her current partner, Bastian Mullerprobably to escape the media wave that will accompany the documentary, or perhaps to celebrate their first year together which fell yesterday.

And despite everything, tears and regrets included, Ilary gives women a precious lesson on how to get up after a sentimental failure and move forward, without ever stopping believing in love.
