With a victory for the history books, Iga świątek is impressively back on the big stage – and then finds clear words towards home.

After her dominant 6-0/6: 0 success in the Wimbledon final against Amanda Anisimova, Iga świątek spoke openly with her person. “I hope you just leave me alone and let me do my job,” said the 24-year-old after the triumph in London. “You can see what we’re doing.”

The Polish had not won a title for more than a year. In the world rankings, she had fallen back to eighth place from the top. But with the first lawn title of her career, she now set a clear sign-and thus completed her collection of Grand Slam successes on all three coverings (hard court, lawn, sand).

Świątek described the way the Polish press had dealt with her and her team in recent months as “not really pleasant”. She “proved a lot” and is aware that many people were increasingly expecting it. “But it is my own process, my own life and my own career,” says świątek. She hopes that the media let her “freedom to do my work as I want it”.

Świątek has been the youngest player since Serena Williams in 2002, who won all three coverings at Grand-Slam tournaments. There had only been a 6: 0/6: 0 in a Grand Slam final in the Open ERA: in 1988 by Steffi Graf against Natallja swerawa.

Świątek also made it clear that the success in Wimbledon was special for her. The title on Church Road feels like her US victory 2022 “better” than her four successes at the French Open. “Because nobody expected that,” said the tennis star.
