On May 1, IG Metall Berlin Brandenburg Sachsen warned of an abrupt ban on imports of Russian gas.

When selecting the sanctions against Russia because of the attack on Ukraine, you have to pay close attention to the effect, explained district manager Birgit Dietze on Saturday.

“IG Metall supports all measures that contribute to ending the war and stopping (Russian President Vladimir) Putin,” emphasized Dietze.

“But an abrupt stop to gas imports from Russia would not shorten the war and would cause serious damage to German industry and its employees and thus to Germany as a strong player in Europe.”
