With a demand for 6.5 percent more money, IG Metall is entering into collective bargaining for around 100,000 employees in the West German textile and clothing industry.

The monthly salary should increase by at least 200 euros, which would bring disproportionate growth to the lower wage groups, as the union reports. The employees urgently need the money to compensate for the general price increases.

In view of the high burden, expanded regulations for partial retirement are also necessary. IG Metall wants to get an extra bonus for union members. The first round of negotiations will take place on January 30th in Frankfurt, warning strikes are possible from March. (dpa)
