In the newspaper we read about hot takes: abortion, fleeing, possession of weapons. We form our opinion about it. But what if the news is about you? The New York Times comes with an interview series in which editors talk to people about a personal experience that ties in with a current news topic. In the first episode, Merritt tells Tierce about her unexpected pregnancy when she was still in school, and about the abortion she didn’t have. Penetrating, emotional and a portrait of someone who changes her mind: she thinks differently about abortion now than she did then. “Every opinion starts with a story,” says presenter Lulu Garcia-Navarro. Another episode tells the story of attorney Sharone Mitchell Jr., who grew up in Chicago, where there are strict gun laws. Because of personal experiences he doubts the effect of those laws.
