The nitrogen crisis continues to provide challenges in the construction sector. The government is working hard on clean solutions to continue building projects. This is done in close collaboration with market parties, municipalities, provinces and water boards, which are increasingly using clean and emission -free building equipment. This equipment emits much less nitrogen during construction, so that permits can be granted faster and projects can continue. By using emission -free construction machines (such as electric excavators or dredging vessels), CO₂ emissions fall. This contributes to the climate goals in the Netherlands.
The collaboration takes place within the Clean and Emissionless Building Covenant. This year, no fewer than 49 new municipalities joined this, with which the total now comes to more than 120 co -authorities. They are committed to the objectives of the covenant and gradually implement more and more construction projects clean and emission -free. That is a huge boost for the construction sector and underlines that cooperation works. New market parties have also joined, which means that the covenant now has 159 partners. Together they take an important step towards a cleaner, quieter construction site.
Today, the State Secretary sends the ‘Stimulation of Schoon and Emissionless Building for Co -Government to the Lower House’ scheme. This scheme stimulates the use of clean building equipment that emits less nitrogen and can therefore make the difference in the event of permits. The scheme offers co -authorities the opportunity to request financial support to compensate any additional costs of emission -free equipment. The market then also benefits from that. Because there is a demand for clean construction machines, there is investment security.
State Secretary Thierry Aartsen (Public Transport and Environment):
“With this scheme, we make it possible for municipalities, provinces and water boards that are possible to build the clean and emission -free building covenant to continue building. By investing together in emission -free equipment, we make building not only possible, but also future -proof. This is how we make the construction sector cleaner and we keep construction projects in motion.”
In 2024, 94 construction projects with the scheme were already realized, and in 2025 the total will grow to more than 200 projects. With the 2026 scheme, which has now been sent to the Lower House, it is expected that much more is expected. Thanks to the scheme, co -authorities can realize building plans for homes, roads and bridges. More than € 120 million was made available for 2026 to continue this successful approach. By continuing to invest in clean construction methods, we ensure that the Netherlands can continue to build homes, roads and infrastructure now and in the future.
