Idris Elba is still under discussion as the new James Bond

Many fans of the James Bond series have long hoped that Idris Elba could become the new 007 agent and inherit Daniel Craig. And their hopes do not seem to be unfounded, because the developers of the Bond films have now also commented on the possible successor.

Barbara Brocolli and Michael G. Wilson, who are both producers of the Bond films, spoke on the Crew Call podcast about Daniel Craig’s final appearance as an MI6 secret agent. In this conversation, too, the question arose as to whether there were any plans to make Elba the new Bond, as this had again been demanded by fans.

Broccoli replied that she knew the actor personally and was friends with him – and had already spoken to Elba about the role. According to Broccoli, Idris Elba has definitely been in talks for a long time as Bond’s successor.

The producers probably don’t want to make a definite commitment at this point in time either, because it’s already known that many fans want Idris Elba to be the next James Bond. Broccoli now makes it sound as if he is also being discussed by the decision-makers. However, they will not comment definitively for the time being, as long as Daniel Craig’s farewell round with “No Time To Die” is still in the cinemas.

Podcast host Anthony D’Alessandro recalled in an interview with the producers how Pierce Brosnan became a James Bond actor in the early 1990s at the urging of fans – and that the fans obviously had a great influence on the decisions of the developers can have.

Because even if some fans find Idris Elba too old for the role at 49, that shouldn’t deter him from being cast as Bond. After all, Daniel Craig is a lot older at 53 and Roger Moore played Bond well into his fifties.

Predecessor Daniel Craig has appeared in five films in the series since 2006.
