“The most important thing is inside!”, Barry van der Oord shouts while a truck full of barrels parks beer in front of the Dolleburg room. “Are you sure that the order is right?” The driver asks. Yes, he knows for sure, they like a beer in De Goorn. Certainly during the fair.

In fact, Barry and Inge already stopped the business in 2023, because they also manage Les Deux Ponts in Oudendijk and are also busy with their four children. “It was all a bit too busy and we want to focus on one case. Moreover, we now also have time to have a drink during the fair,” says Inge.

“The last time that was possible, I can’t even remember,” adds Barry.

Special place

They would rather have seen that the iconic Dolleburg, where beer has been tapped for 200 years, would be preserved in front of the village. A successor was not found, so the owner of the building now wants to build apartments. Since that is still waiting, they open the doors once more.

“We also met here, so it’s a special place for us,” said Barry.

The fair in Dolleburg is limited to Saturday this year. According to the Horecastel, the gap that fell after the closure is now filled by the sports café and Eetcafé d’Etreting also has a full fair program. “That’s great, because there are also villages where nothing remains. Yet it remains a shame for the village.”
