For weeks, speculation about the future of Manuel Neuer had been speculated. Now it is clear: the world champion remains in Munich.
FC Bayern Munich and Manuel Neuer have agreed on an extension of the contract. The record champions announced this on Monday. Neuer’s contract runs until 2026. Sportsman Max Eberl raved: “Manuel Neuer is the best goalkeeper of his generation and already an icon of FC Bayern.”
The agreement had been a matter of form for weeks, and the new had also publicly signaled to continue. The new contract is certain: Even at the age of 40, Manuel Neuer will still be in the FC Bayern goal. “I have a lot of fun with football and want to continue to be a FC Bayern player. I’m still hungry and I’m looking forward to another year in this special club,” said Neuer now.
The 2014 world champion has already played more than 540 competitive games for FC Bayern, is one of the top ten in club history. He lacks fewer than 40 games on Franz Beckenbauer. Sports director Christoph Freund therefore emphasized: “Manuel Neuer has been setting new standards in the goalkeeper game for over a decade. He is our captain, a great personality of FC Bayern, and the team knows that she can always rely on him.”
However, new successor is still unclear. With Alexander Nübel (28 years) and Jonas Urbig (21), the record champion has two highly respected German keepers under contract. Nübel is currently borrowed to VfB Stuttgart until 2026, but has a contract in Munich until 2029.
Urbig, on the other hand, has only been in Munich for a week and came from Cologne for around seven million euros plus bonus payments. The talented goalkeeper should now learn from Neuer in training and step in for him when he is injured.
