A volcano near the Icelandic town of Grindavik, about 40 kilometers southwest of the capital Reykjavik, erupted late on Monday evening. The town’s approximately 4,000 residents were evacuated on November 11, as seismic activity in the area increased sharply. Authorities feared that a volcanic eruption was imminent.
