The Ice Hockey World Championships are going to be intense these weeks. Occasionally an injury occurs, which can also lead to trouble.
Sweden confidently won its game against Italy at the Ice Hockey World Cup with 3-0. In the Group B table, the Scandinavians are in fourth place after five games and the quarter-finals are conceivable. Nevertheless, there was trouble in the game against Italy. Because the exceptional Swedish talent Anton Frondell had to abandon the game early. The reason for this was an injury to the 19-year-old.

Frondell crashed into an edge on the Italian players’ bench in the middle of the game because the door wasn’t closed properly. Frondell immediately sat down on the Swedish bench, his face contorted in pain, holding his stomach area. It is still unclear whether and for how long the NHL player will be out.
“Then the tournament is over”
In Sweden there was definitely a lot of anger about the door not being closed. The TV experts Mattias Norström (ex-NHL player) and Jacob Josefson (active ice hockey player) agreed with the TV station that the omission was “extremely dangerous”. Former ice hockey player Erik Granqvist was even more explicit. “It’s just bad of the Italian supervisor that he didn’t close the door properly. In such a case, the spleen can rupture or ribs can break, then the tournament is over,” he complained. “This is a very serious matter.”
Sweden’s national coach Sam Hallam couldn’t say much about his player’s condition after the game. “He’s undergoing treatment right now,” Hallam said. “That was very unfortunate.” Incidentally, Sweden’s next World Cup game takes place this Saturday evening. “Tre Kronor” meets Norway at 8:20 p.m. It remains to be seen whether Frondell will be there.
