The home of a long-time ice hockey reporter is on fire. The fire department can no longer save her and her three children. The US sports world is shocked.
Tragedy in the ice hockey world: The National Hockey League (NHL) mourns the loss of reporter Jessi Pierce. The 37-year-old died in a house fire in the US state of Minnesota on Saturday, the ice hockey league confirmed in an official statement. Accordingly, the sports journalist died along with her three children.
The White Bear Lake fire department was alerted shortly before 5:30 a.m. Neighbors saw flames coming from the roof of the house. When the emergency services arrived, the building was already completely engulfed in flames. Fire Chief Greg Peterson said, “Our deepest condolences go out to everyone affected by this tragedy.”
Pierce recently worked for the NHL’s website for ten seasons and regularly reported on games for the Minnesota Wild, a team based in St. Paul, on NHL.com. She previously worked for the sports magazine “The Athletic” and also hosted the podcast “Bardown Beauties”.
Bill Price, Editor-in-Chief of NHL.com, paid tribute to the deceased: “Jessi’s love for her family and hockey was reflected in the energy and passion she brought to her work.” There is great sympathy in the ice hockey world. The NHL stated: “Jessi loved our sport and was a valued member of our team for a decade. We will miss her terribly.”
The Minnesota Wild also spoke to X: “We are deeply shocked and mourn the tragic loss of Jessi and her children.” The day before the tragic fire, Pierce had posted pictures of a trip with her family to X. Her three children can be seen licking ice cream cones and eating sandwiches. Pierce is survived by her husband, Mike Pierce.
