Big show in the 200th NHL game: John-Jason Peterka led his Buffalo Sabers to their first NHL victory of the new year.

The 22-year-old German national ice hockey player was on Monday evening in the 4:3 penalty shootout against Washington Capitals the decisive man. Peterka scored 1-0 in the first period, set up Tage Thompson to make it 3-2 in the second period – and converted in the Shootout then to the Sabers victory.

With 11 goals and 19 assists, Peterka already has 30 points scorer in 39 games, chasing his record from the previous season (50). The Munich native, runner-up in 2023, has been playing in the NHL since 2021.

Sabers remain weakest team in the East

“What JJ did today looked right from the start. I praised him recently, his attacking line was the best today”said Head coach Lindy Ruff afterwards.

After three defeats since New Year’s Eve, the victory was a pleasant sense of achievement for the Sabres, who, however, have little to do with the race for the playoffs: Buffalo remains the weakest team Eastern Conferenceonly 15 wins in 41 games.
