The Lions Frankfurt can actually still win. The first division ice hockey team from Bornheim gave themselves a present on Boxing Day and beat Munich.

The Lions Frankfurt finally stopped their series of defeats in the German Ice Hockey League on Friday. After nine defeats in a row, the Bornheimers surprisingly won 3-1 at EHC Munich at the end of the Christmas season.

After Frankfurt’s lead through Markus Schweiger, Munich’s Gabriel Fontaine quickly equalized. Daniel Pfaffengut took advantage of a double advantage in the middle of the second third and put the Lions back in front. In the last minute, Maksim Matushkin rewarded the self-sacrificing Hessians with the decisive goal into the empty goal.

Lions are still playing against the last team

But the ice hockey year for the Lions isn’t over yet. Coach Tom Pokel’s team will be competing in Bremerhaven on Sunday, followed by a basement duel with bottom team Dresden on Tuesday in the Frankfurt ice rink.
