Ice hockey in the DEL: Kölner Haie retain the upper hand against Iserlohn Roosters

The Kölner Haie won the NRW duel against the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

Head coach Kari Jalonen’s team came from behind to win 3-1 (0-0, 2-1, 1-0) on Sunday evening and move up to fourth place in the table after their sixth win in their tenth game. The penultimate Iserlohn suffered a setback after winning the basement duel against Dresden, but showed a decent performance.

Cologne turns the game around in the second third

In the first third, Cologne came out of the locker room with a lot of pressure, but hardly created any big chances. Iserlohn survived Cologne’s pressure phase well at the beginning and held on, but there were initially no clear opportunities for the Sauerlanders.

That changed in the second period when the Roosters took the lead with their first good chance of the game. During a counterattack on the left side, the disc came into the slot for Daniel Fischbuch (27th), who scored to make it 1-0. With a penalty against Iserlohn’s Colton Jobke, the Haien managed to equalize after five seconds. Valtteri Kemiläinen (34′) hammered the puck from the left faceoff circle into the goal, leaving Roosters keeper Hendrik Hane no chance.

Five minutes later the home team followed up. Moritz Müller held the target in the high slot and passed it to Dominik Bokk (37th), who hit the crossbar powerfully. In the final section, Cologne missed a few opportunities to take a higher lead, and Hane showed a strong performance. When Iserlohn took Hane out for an additional field player, Patrick Russell (60th) made the decision with an empty net goal a few seconds before the end of the game.

Cologne has to go to Dresden, Iserlohn to Straubing

The Kölner Haie’s next DEL game is on Thursday (October 16, 2025): at 7:30 p.m. the Rhinelanders will play against the newly promoted Dresdner Eislöwen. A day later, the Iserlohn Roosters will be visiting the Straubing Tigers, the game starts at 7.30 p.m.
