ERC Ingolstadt has taken the lead in the DEL table with a club record.
Coach Mark French’s in-form team won on matchday 22 against the weakened champions Eisbären Berlin 5:2 (1:0, 2:0, 2:2) and pushed the weakening Straubing Tigers off the top. With their ninth win in a row, the Panthers set an internal club record.
DEL top scorer Riley Barber (5th) put the long-time superior ERC in the lead with his 20th goal of the season, Austen Keating (21st) and Kenny Agostino (37th) followed up for the league’s goal factory (already 99 goals). The Berliners, who have seven long-term injuries around top scorer Ty Ronning, came back through Blaine Byron (42nd) and Liam Kirk (50th).
Peter Abbandonato (59th) and Alex Breton (60th) made the decision with their goals into the deserted Berlin goal. Berlin is only in eighth place.
Iserlohn Roosters succeeds in breaking free
The Iserlohn Roosters managed to break free in the basement duel against bottom team Dresdner Eislöwen.
The Sauerlanders also ended their goalless streak at 6:1 (3:0, 2:1, 1:0). Coach Stefan Nyman’s team went 219:19 minutes without scoring their own goal – a negative club record. Only four clubs in DEL history have gone longer without scoring their own goal. Straubing has led the rankings since 2015 with 274:53 minutes.
Iserlohn distanced the newcomers from Dresden to five points after only their second win after regular playing time, but as second to last they are already ten points behind the Löwen Frankfurt in twelfth place. The Ice Lions were once again hardly competitive; after 23 games, the Saxons only have nine points.
The Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven lost their fourth league game in a row. After the 0:4 (0:2, 0:2, 0:0) against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg, the North Germans are only seventh.
