Ice hockey, DEL: Eisbären Berlin end the dry spell, home win for Munich

After the recent series of defeats, ice hockey champion Eisbären Berlin can celebrate again in the DEL against Düsseldorf. Munich gets a narrow home win against Frankfurt.

The Eisbären Berlin have reported back to the German Ice Hockey League after the recent setbacks. On Sunday (November 27th, 2022), the champions scored 3: 2 (1: 0, 0: 1, 1: 1, 0: 0, 1: 0) after a penalty shootout against Düsseldorfer EG.

Zachary Boychuk (7th) and Peter Regin (55th) put the Berliners in the lead twice. Edmund Junemann (23rd) and Philipp Gogulla 36 seconds before the end (60th) each scored the equalizer. Matthew White then secured the extra point for the polar bears in the shootout.

Munich also wins against Frankfurt

EHC Munich remains at the top of the table after the 24th matchday. Coach Don Jackson’s team beat newly promoted Löwen Frankfurt 3-2 (0-0, 2-0, 1-2) and now have 53 points.

Andreas Eder (22′), Patrick Hager (35′) and Christopher DeSousa (53′) scored for Munich, Frankfurt was able to shorten twice through Chad Nehring (45′) and Kevin Maginot (56′).

Mannheim and Wolfsburg with real thrillers

Behind Munich, the Adler Mannheim follow in second place, who won 5: 4 (1: 2, 1: 1, 3: 1) against the Grizzlies Wolfsburg in the last second and now have 46 points. In a crazy final phase in Mannheim, Darren Archibald initially scored the late 4:4 (59th) for the guests.

But with the last action of the game, Nigel Dawes scored the winning goal to make it 5:4 for the Eagles a second before the final siren.
