“As soon as status holders get cold, so without experience, it often happens that they quickly stop working quickly. An employer expects immediate results, but that is not in one go,” says Marco Schonewille, who works for municipalities of De Wolden and Hoogeveen.
According to him, it is important that both parties get used to each other. “A status holder must get to know the language better, but also the culture. By offering an internship of four weeks they can easily grow in it.”
That is why the test consists of working and learning. The participants gain experience in practice a few days a week. Every Thursday they are in the school desks at DNA Next. That is an initiative of the Drenthe College, Noorderpoort and Alfa College.
The status holders will keep their benefits during the trial period. If everything clicks after four weeks, they can be employed by the care case, or it will be checked whether there is a suitable place somewhere else.
“The participants can also think after four weeks:” This is not for me, “and then they just keep their benefits. That is also the goal of the test, to see if both parties are having a good time,” explains Oostingh of the care case.
If it is up to the municipalities, the test will continue after four weeks. “We wait for the results and then look at what we do. But if it is successful, yes why not? We hope that status holders will find work and come out of their benefits,” says Schonewille.
