With the last show of the “End of the Road” tour, the live end for Kiss is imminent. Although the last concert will not be played until 2023, Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has already expressed a lot of emotion. At the last stop of the tour, which has been going on for years, tears would flow, Simmons announced.
“We’re playing better than ever”
Actually, the 72-year-old wouldn’t think so much about the end, he reports. One of the reasons for this is that the hard rock band is currently “really having the best time” of their lives. “We’re playing better than ever,” says Simmons. Despite this, he explains: “I know that at some point there will be the last song that Kiss will ever play on stage and I know that I will cry like a baby and will not be able to hold back the emotions since it has been an incredible journey.”
Gene Simmons has no regrets
In an interview with “Classic Rock”, the bassist, who recently launched his own bass with Gibson, not only looks back on band life, but also on his private life. He was particularly saddened by the passing of two important people in his life: his mother Flora and his former manager Bill Aucoin. He also spoke about his reality show “Gene Simmons Family Jewels”, which sheds light on his existence as a family man. He has no regrets about the series and is glad he married his wife Shannon Tweed in 2011.
About the decision to get married, the musician says: “We were together for 29 years and all those years I was an asshole”. He would never have used drugs and would never have been drunk, but would still have done “bad things”. At the age of 62, he would have realized that he didn’t want to be “surrounded by strippers” on his deathbed, but by “people who love me”. Marriage was the best decision he had ever made.
There will be no Kiss farewell album
Simmons also commented on a Kiss farewell album. The band doesn’t want to release any more, although they continue to enjoy the creative process. “Working your ass off so someone can download or stream your music for free isn’t my idea of how things should be,” he argues. “If you don’t value music, it has no value. So all that’s left for Kiss is what’s happening now: the ‘End of the Road’ tour.”
In the summer there will also be a few final Kiss concerts in Germany, for example in Dortmund and Hamburg. The band had recently made headlines with multiple corona infections, but Gene Simmons also showed solidarity with Ukraine on Twitter and positioned himself with a personal statement against Putin. He recently expressed strong criticism of the new Batman film on Twitter.
