“I see ‘Tell me how it happened’ as a series that tells the story of life”

‘Tell me how it happened’ premieres its 22nd season this Thursday in which the Alcántara family will delve into the years 1993 and 1994 after traveling to the present with the pandemic in his previous deliveries. In addition to the cast led by Imanol Arias, Ana Dueto and María Galiana, Carmen Climent also returns to the series to play a María Alcántara who coincides in the day-to-day life of the hospital where she does her internship with Jorge, her partner. YOTELE talk to the actress about the new episodes of the legendary TVE series, among other things.

It was recently 20 years since the premiere of the series on TVE. As a member of the cast, how does it feel to be part of one of the longest-running fictions in our country?

It’s lucky. You don’t believe it. You live it day by day and it becomes everyday, but then you think about it and say that it is very strong that this has happened of being in a series that I have always watched and being part of his family.

This is your third season on the series. Looking back, what personal balance do you make of this stage?

I have come a long way and there has been a lot of learning. I have done theater, but it is the first audiovisual work I did. Also, it was all very new because we were shooting in Madrid. I would say that the first was to land and see, the second was to gain confidence and the third is fun. It’s giving everything, being calm and from there I work hard.

But it seems that you have always been in the neighborhood of San Génaro all your life. That is to say, many consider that you have adapted very well.

Yes. There was a lot of previous work and a lot of research and I received a lot of support from them. Personally, in the end, from the outside you see one thing but, internally, it is a world to arrive at a place where they have been for a long time. It has not been easy at all. I think no one can walk into a family and be 100% from the start. It takes a lot of work and time yes or yes.

Did you have some nerves at the beginning?

Yes, of course, but my own, not from the outside in. You are entering a place that has a very high level and with actors who have a very high level career, without forgetting the 20 years they have been working on this series. I have 25 years. 20 years ago, I was 5. I don’t want to imagine what it’s like working there because, for me, it’s almost a lifetime. So, a lot of nerves on my part, but also a lot of joy and good things. It was a world that you have to live it, but thanks to that I feel that I have grown for a moment.

This Thursday, you premiere season 22, which is set in the years 1993 and 1994. How would you define this new season in your own words?

I’d say it’s a bit like going back to the roots. It is an explosion of emotions. There is something for everyone.

In these new chapters, María is already in medicine room and lives with Jorge. The note also explains that there will be more prominence of the third generation, but will she be even more present if it fits in the plots?

Yes, it is also a plot that I really want viewers to see because there is a lot of work behind it. For me it is the best thing that they have given me and could give me. I’m very grateful and I can’t say much because they won’t let me, but it really has a lot of weight.

What will be the evolution of Maria in this new season compared to the previous episodes?

It is very mature, but, above all, there will be one thing that will give a very big turn. And there I leave it.

In this season, Nacho Fresneda also joins the cast, who will be very present in this new stage that María opens doing the race practices. How has been the connection of your characters in the plots of these new chapters?

I have to tell a little because they won’t let me, but it’s cool. The character is a much-admired professor who is going to be very tough but who is going to be going around sometimes well, sometimes badly, but he will be very present.

We come from a season in which ‘Tell me how it happened’ has mixed the past with that present marked by the coronavirus pandemic. How have you seen Silvia Abascal playing María at that time?

Silvia looks wonderful. She is an actress I have always admired. The fact that she played María when she grew up for me has also been a gift for being able to look at someone great. I already have great people around me with a great journey in the series, but suddenly the fact that someone great and a good actress is the future of my character leaves me with some marks to follow. It is as if someone with experience helps you. I leave you the future and you build how to continue until there. Life can take a thousand turns, but I already know where it’s going, and that’s wonderful.

You told me before that you are 25 years old, but do you have any cultural references from the 90s?

Yes, and also something happened to me that made me very excited. I really like Mecano because my mother loves it too. I was able to meet Ana Torroja because, as she sang the theme tune to ‘Cuéntame how it happened’ when I joined. I was very excited because it was the music I listened to the most when I was little because my mother always played it. In general, I love all the music of the 80s/90s.

Now that ‘Tell me how it happened’ has recently turned 20, what is your wish for both the series and yourself?

May it continue to grow. Keep counting. In the end, I see ‘Cuéntame how it happened’ as a series that tells the life and history of all Spaniards and of a family. It is a reflex to realize many things. I hope it has a long way to go and that I can continue to learn a lot from all my colleagues, from the series itself and from María Alcántara.
