Tennis superstar Aryna Sabalenka has apologized with clear words for her behavior after the French Open final against Coco Gauff.

“I have to agree, that was just absolutely unprofessional from me. I let myself be guided by the emotions,” said Aryna Sabalenka in an interview with “Eurosport”.

The world ranking list had suggested after the 7: 6, 2: 6, 4: 6 against Coco Gauff in the Finale of the French Open 2025 that the American only won because she made too many mistakes herself. Tennis expert Andrea Petkovic clearly criticized Sabalenka in her “Sky” column.

“I absolutely regret what I said at the time. You know that we all make mistakes. I’m just a person who still learns in life. I think we all have these days when you lose control,” Sabalenka apologized.

Tennis superstar speaks of “hate”

“The difference to me is: I then watch the world. Then I get a lot more hatred for what I did than other people,” said the Belarussian and revealed: “But what I would like to say: I wrote Coco afterwards – not immediately, but recently.”

“I wanted to apologize and make sure that she knows that she had absolutely deserved to win the tournament and I respect her. I never intended to attack her. I was super emotionally and not very smart at this press conference,” said Sabalenka.

The 27-year-old is currently preparing for Wimbledon. “I love lawn. Especially after the sandplace season. There you have to fight very hard for every point. Everything goes a little faster on lawn, you don’t have to work for one point for so long. I enjoy that very much,” said Sabalenka.

Her best results at the tennis classic in Wimbledon were the semi-finals in 2021 and 2023.
